AfDB president Adesina visits Buhari, thanks ex-president for his support

President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has thanked former President Muhammadu Buhari for his unwavering support during both his initial election and eventual re-election as AfDB President.
In a post shared on X on Thursday, Adesina disclosed that he recently paid a visit to Buhari to personally thank him for his role in backing his candidacy.
“I visited President Buhari to express my deep appreciation for his incredibly supporting my nomination by President Jonathan for election as President, African Development Bank,” Adesina wrote.
He acknowledged Buhari’s steadfast support during challenging periods, which he credited as instrumental to his successful re-election.
“He strongly stood by me in difficult times, which ensured my re-election. Thank you Sir,” the post read.
Adesina, who previously served as Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, was first elected AfDB President in 2015 with backing from then-President Goodluck Jonathan.
He was re-elected in 2020 after overcoming political hurdles, with Buhari playing a key role in rallying support for his second term.
