Arraignment of Emefiele and Allies Over Alleged N6.9bn Fraud Stalled for the Second Time
Once again, the scheduled court appearance for the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has been postponed, marking the second instance of such a delay. The case pertains to allegations of N6.9 billion procurement fraud.
The planned arraignment, originally set for Wednesday, October 23, at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja, did not proceed as anticipated. The matter was notably absent from the court’s official cause list for the day.
No specific explanation was provided to the press regarding this development, and both legal teams were notably absent from the courtroom during the scheduled time.
The case was first stalled on August 17 following the absence of the second defendant in the case, Sa’adatu Yaro.
She was said to have taken ill and could not make it to court.
The president judge, Justice Hamza Muazu, adjourned the case till August 23 for the arraignment of the defendants.
Emefiele is facing 20 charges of procurement fraud, conspiracy and conferring corrupt advantages on his associates.
