NRC MD in hot water over unpaid allowances for security escorts
Fidet Edentalen Okhiria, who is the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), is facing a new problem. He might face penalties because he allegedly didn’t pay the allowances for the security officers who work with the agency.
Saidu Alkali, the Minister of Transportation, brought up this issue during an unexpected visit to the Idu Train Station in Abuja. This visit took place on a Sunday. While he was there, Alkali personally examined the coaches on the Kaduna-Abuja train route. He came across several issues that required immediate attention.
Alkali stated, “I received a complaint from the security escorts that their allowances haven’t been paid for the last five months. I’m pleased that the MD of NRC will be meeting with the Ministry on Tuesday to provide a briefing.”
“So, if he comes, I am now well informed the lifts and escalators aren’t working, which makes it very difficult for the elderly and the disabled persons to use the train for travelling.
“Therefore, he would explain why disciplinary action wouldn’t be taken against him.”
