NSCDC officer killed, five policemen, soldier injured in Abia road crash

A personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has been confirmed dead, while five policemen and a soldier sustained injuries in an auto crash at Ibeku, along the Umuahia-Bende-Ohafia federal highway in Abia State.
This newspaper gathered that the vehicle carrying the security operatives, who were part of the state’s joint security task force made up of the Police, Army, and NSCDC personnel, swerved off the road and fell into a ditch on the narrow, deteriorating highway.
Motorists and residents from the Ihie Ibeku community reportedly assisted in rescuing the victims and took them to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, prior to the arrival of security forces.
Eyewitnesses recounted, “Out of the 10 security officers onboard, one NSCDC official was confirmed dead, while eight others were injured and rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia. Initially, one officer was believed to be missing after disembarking along the highway before the crash, but he was later found alive.”
Meanwhile, Governor Alex Otti has expressed condolences to the leadership of the state joint security task force regarding the tragic accident.
In a statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, Governor Otti extended his sympathies to the families of the deceased NSCDC official and the injured personnel. He assured that the state government would ensure the wounded operatives receive proper medical treatment for a speedy recovery.
Governor Otti also praised the Joint Security Task Force for their efforts in safeguarding the state from criminal activity and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing continued support to maintain their operations.
