Tragedy as Ogun hunter Bolugbe accidentally shoots self while retrieving prey, dies on the spot

A routine hunting expedition in the Ajinawo area of Yewa North, Ogun State, turned fatal when a hunter, Taiwo Bolugbe, accidentally shot himself while attempting to retrieve a hunted animal.
According to a statement by the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, the tragic incident was reported on March 23, 2025, at around 16:30hrs.
Bolugbe’s Dane gun reportedly slipped from his shoulder, discharging accidentally and striking him fatally in the neck and lower jaw.
Despite frantic efforts by fellow hunters to save him, Bolugbe succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
In the aftermath, police arrested five hunters in connection with the incident and transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiry.
The Ogun State Police Command has issued a stern warning on the dangers of improper firearm handling, urging hunters and firearm users to exercise extreme caution to prevent similar tragedies.
